About the Role: 

Due to an exciting period of expansion, we are looking for a Safeguarding Consultant to join our team and play a key role in delivering our growing safeguarding service in education. The service offers safeguarding support to schools through expert audits, advice, and training. 

If you have a background in safeguarding in education, children’s social care, police or health, get in touch with us to discuss how your experience could transfer to providing robust support for our school clients. 

As a Safeguarding Consultant you will audit education settings to ensure they meet the national and statutory safeguarding requirements and support them to ensure compliance by recommending procedures and processes they should implement. You will provide solutions to client queries, deliver quality training, draft policies, and continually develop and research your own knowledge of safeguarding.    

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Conduct safeguarding audits in schools, analyse findings, provide feedback, and ensure that the school feels supported in implementing improvements. 

  • Complete audit reports that thoroughly evaluate safeguarding practice, provide practical recommendations and an action plan to support schools to be compliant and develop best practice. 

  • Respond to client enquiries in a timely manner offering sound advice in line with statutory guidance and safeguarding best practice. 

  • Review and draft safeguarding related policies and other relevant documentation for clients.   

  • Design and deliver expert safeguarding training to schools, including sofa sessions and e-learning modules. 

  • Comprehensively understand, and keep up to date, with statutory guidance in relation to safeguarding in schools and be able to use this to support clients in their day-to-day work. 

  • Support the growth of the service through effective liaison with clients and any relevant projects. 

  • Provide safeguarding supervision to Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and Deputy DSLs, supporting reflective practice and effective safeguarding decision-making. 

This role may particularly suit experienced Designated Safeguarding Leads, senior leaders or safeguarding professionals who are interested in moving from working within a school, trust or safeguarding organisation into a consultancy role supporting a wide range of education settings. 

About You: 

  • Experience in safeguarding children in either education, children’s social care, health, or police, preferably in a leadership role. 

  • For this role specifically, it would be desirable if you were to have experience supporting with Early Years Safeguarding (children under 5). 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to give constructive feedback and manage differing expectations and relationships with all stakeholders. 

  • Clear and concise communication, capable of producing written content to a professional quality based firmly on knowledge of statutory guidance and safeguarding best practice.  

  • Secure knowledge of statutory guidance around safeguarding children and an ability to turn this into effective advice.   

  • A confident public-speaker who is comfortable in effectively delivering training to different groups.  

  • An ability and willingness to undertake continuing professional development training and be proactive in seeking such opportunities.  

  • An ability to work independently, co-ordinate and prioritise tasks effectively to meet the needs of clients.  

  • A driving licence - candidates must be prepared to travel with this role.
