This standard prepares practitioners who:

Tutor/Assessor – Job Description

Role purpose:
To deliver high-quality teaching, coaching and curriculum that enables apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required for competent HR Support practice, providing effective people support services and HR advice across a variety of organisational settings

Key responsibilities:

To deliver structured teaching aligned to HR Support KSBs:

 
  • HR fundamentals and the employee lifecycle
  • Recruitment, selection and onboarding processes
  • Employment law and HR policy application
  • HR systems, records and data management
  • Employee relations and workplace issues
  • Organisational structures and business understanding

To facilitate development of:
  • Professional communication and influencing skills
  • Problem-solving and sound judgement
  • Customer-focused service delivery
  • Relationship building and stakeholder management
  • Professional ethics and confidentiality
  • Planning, organisation and prioritisation
 



To support apprentices to:
  • Build portfolios of workplace evidence
  • Apply learning to real-life HR scenarios
  • Develop confidence in providing HR advice and guidance
  • Demonstrate competence in HR processes and systems
  • Prepare for end-point assessment activities


To embed:

Essential occupational competence:

Tutors must demonstrate current, relevant sector experience, typically in:

 
  • Human Resources functions
  • Employee relations
  • Recruitment and resourcing

Experience of:
  • Providing HR advice and guidance
  • Applying employment legislation and organisational policies
  • Supporting recruitment and onboarding activities

Key Differentiator

Tutors must be able to:
  • Translate complex HR policies and legal principles into practical workplace application
  • Coach apprentices in handling sensitive and confidential HR matters
  • Demonstrate real-world HR scenarios across the employee lifecycle
  • Balance customer service, compliance and organisational risk management
  • Develop apprentices' confidence in providing compliant HR advice and support to managers and employees

The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about clients, staff and other LMP stakeholders. Some work is confidential, and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. The post holder must always meet the requirements of the General Data Regulation Act.
