Apprenticeship Overview
This Standard prepares practitioners who:
  • Provide early, preventative support to individuals and families
  • Work across multi-agency settings (health, education, social care, voluntary sector)
  • Assess risk, deliver interventions, and prevent escalation to statutory services

Core capabilities include:
  • Safeguarding and risk assessment
  • Person-centred and family-centred approaches
  • Case management and partnership working
  • Emotional support and behaviour change


Job Description
Role purpose:
To deliver high-quality teaching, coaching and curriculum that enables apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required for competent Early Intervention practice.

Key responsibilities:
  • To deliver structured teaching aligned to Early Intervention Practitioner KSBs:
    • Safeguarding and protection of vulnerable individuals
    • Multi-agency working and partnership engagement
    • Risk identification, assessment and management
    • Communication and relationship-building
    • Early intervention theories and evidence-based approaches
 
  • To facilitate development of:
    • Casework skills and caseload management
    • Professional judgement and decision-making
    • Coaching, mentoring and resilience
 
  • To support apprentices to:
    • Build portfolios of evidence
    • Apply learning in the workplace
    • Prepare for EPA (presentation + professional discussion)
 
  • To embed:
    • Safeguarding, Prevent, and wellbeing
    • Equality, diversity and inclusion
    • Professional boundaries and ethics

Essential occupational competence
Tutors must demonstrate current, relevant sector experience, typically in:

  • Early help / early intervention services
  • Family support, youth work, pastoral support
  • Social care, safeguarding or community support roles
  • Multi-agency partnership environments

Experience of:
 
  • Managing safeguarding concerns
  • Working within early help / multi-agency frameworks
  • Handling complex or vulnerable cases
  • Multi-Agency working

Knowledge of:
  • Safeguarding legislation and thresholds
  • Data protection and confidentiality
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Early help frameworks
  • Local safeguarding arrangements
  • Understanding of limits of role and when to escalate cases
  • Awareness of emotional impact and resilience
  • Risk & case management

Typical prior roles:
  • Family Support Worker
  • Early Help Practitioner
  • Pastoral Lead / Safeguarding Officer
  • Youth Worker / Wellbeing Practitioner

This reflects the standard’s requirement to support individuals with issues such as addiction, behavioural challenges, or social barriers through early intervention.

Key Differentiator:
  • Depth of safeguarding and frontline practice experience
  • Unlike technical standards, success here depends on tutors being able to:
    • Model professional judgement in complex, sensitive situations
    • Teach relational, ethical and risk-based practice, not just knowledge

Some work is confidential, and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty.
