Apprenticeship Overview
This standard prepares practitioners who:
  • Identify learning and development needs that support organisational objectives.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate learning solutions for individuals and groups.
  • Support learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for workplace performance.
  • Apply coaching techniques to improve individual capability and performance.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

This programme includes an embedded ILM Level 3 Certificate in Effective Coaching, enabling apprentices to develop recognised coaching knowledge and practical coaching skills alongside the apprenticeship standard.

Tutor/Assessor – Job Description
Role purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching, coaching and curriculum that enables apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required for successful Learning & Development practice while supporting achievement of the embedded ILM Level 3 Certificate in Effective Coaching and successful completion of End-Point Assessment.
Key responsibilities
To deliver structured teaching aligned to Learning & Development Practitioner KSBs:
  • Learning needs analysis
  • Learning design principles
  • Delivery of face-to-face, online and blended learning
  • Assessment and evaluation of learning
  • Learning technologies and digital delivery
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Professional standards within Learning & Development

To deliver the embedded ILM coaching qualification including:
  • Coaching principles and models
  • Building effective coaching relationships
  • Coaching communication skills
  • Active listening and effective questioning
  • Goal setting and action planning
  • Reflective coaching practice
  • Ethical coaching and professional boundaries

To facilitate development of:
  • Facilitation and presentation skills
  • Coaching confidence
  • Communication and influencing skills
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Reflective practice
  • Professional behaviours
  • Problem-solving and continuous improvement

To support apprentices to:
  • Build portfolios of workplace evidence
  • Complete practical coaching observations and reflective accounts

  • Delivering workplace coaching

  • Coaching models (including GROW and solution-focused coaching)

Tutors must be able to:
  • Demonstrate current best practice in workplace learning and development.
  • Deliver engaging learning across face-to-face, virtual and blended environments.
  • Coach apprentices using recognised coaching models and techniques.
  • Support achievement of both the Learning & Development Practitioner apprenticeship and the embedded ILM Level 3 Certificate in Effective Coaching.
  • Translate learning theory into practical workplace performance improvement.

The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about clients, staff and other LMP stakeholders. Some work is confidential, and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. The post holder must always meet the requirements of the General Data Regulation Act.
